License and updates
Activate Hun, move it between Macs, use it offline and install updates.
Hun is a one-time purchase of $9. One license key works on up to 3 Macs, and updates are included.
Activate
The first time you open Hun, it asks for a key on Activate Hun:
- Paste the key from your purchase email into License key.
- Click Activate Hun.
Hun stores the key in your Keychain. If you don't have a key yet, click Buy Hun · $9.
Until Hun is activated, the menu bar panel says Hun needs a license, with Open Hun to get to the activation screen.
Move Hun to another Mac
A key that's already on 3 Macs can't be activated on a fourth. To move it:
- On a Mac you no longer use, open Settings › License.
- Click Deactivate…, then Deactivate. Hun asks for the key again before it can be used on that Mac.
- Activate on the new Mac.
If you try a key that's on as many Macs as it allows, Hun says: "This key is already active on as many Macs as it allows. Deactivate Hun on one of them and try again."
Offline use
Hun checks your license with the license server when it opens, every 6 hours, and when your Mac wakes. If it can't reach the server, Hun keeps working for 72 hours after the last successful check. Settings › License shows Offline grace period while that's the case, and Last verified says when the last check succeeded.
After 72 hours without a successful check, Hun shows Could not verify your license. Connect to the internet and click Try again.
If the server says the key is no longer valid, Hun asks for a key again, with the message "This license is no longer valid."
Updates
Hun checks for updates in the background. When a new version is ready, a line appears at the bottom of the sidebar, such as Hun 0.4.4 is ready.
- Click the version to see what's new in the changelog.
- Click the download arrow next to it to install the update.
To check yourself, choose Check for Updates… from the app menu.
Updates are signed and installed with Sparkle. The hun command on your PATH points into the app, so it updates with it.
